The omega blocking pattern, which has resulted in yet another stretch of very pleasant and increasingly mild weather, will continue for at least the next 10 days. Temperatures will flirt with, but unlikely exceed, record highs at times over the next week to ten days.

As you can see above, there is no precipitation forecasted over the next 10 days, and temperatures will be in the upper 70s and even low to mid-80s at times. The normal high temperature this time of year is 70 degrees with a low around 50. We’ll be 10 to 15 degrees above normal high temperatures and 5-10 degrees above normal low temperatures over the next week and beyond. The warm and dry air is expected to stick around through at least mid-October.

For what it’s worth, even longer-range models show above normal warmth off and on through Halloween–albeit with some seasonably cool mornings (lows in the 30s) mixed in the second half of October.
October is a tough month for sunlight, as it is really the first time that the change in sunrise and sunset becomes noticeable. Sunrise on October 1st occurs at approximately 7:41 AM. By Halloween, it is 8:15 AM. The sunset on October 1st is around 7:25 PM, and by the end of the month, it is back to 6:39 PM. I hope our stretch of mainly dry, sunny weather continues through October, because we are quickly running out of daylight.
Hurricane season has about a month left, and while there are two active systems in the Atlantic, neither poses a significant threat beyond the extreme eastern seaboard, Bermuda, and the Bahamas. Hurricane Humberto is currently a Category 4 with wind gusts over 140 mph. Tropical Storm Imelda is chasing Humberto’s heels and both are expected to veer to the northeast and then east into the Atlantic over the next several days.

Even the astronomy for the next few is a little boring. Outside of the constellation of Orion being clearly visible an hour or two before sunrise, and Jupiter being bright in the night sky, there isn’t much going on.
Enjoy the beautiful weather while it lasts!
