Days officially start getting longer again starting on Monday! Tomorrow marks our last sunset before 5:16 PM. By the end of the month, sunset is back to 5:23 PM. Sunrises start getting earlier January 6th. Tomorrow is technically our shortest day of the year with approximately nine hours, nine minutes, and two seconds of daylight.

In other news, despite a brief return to slightly below normal temperatures tomorrow (Sunday), the week ahead will be very warm with temperatures reaching at least the 40s and 50s. While we won’t see sun every day, very little rain is expected.

Christmas Eve may be a little dreary with one of the best chances for precipitation (mostly rain) next week. Unfortunately, Christmas Day doesn’t look much better at this range, albeit warmer. There shouldn’t be any travel issues locally outside of some fog.

Precipitation totals over the next 7 days.
Potential Visibility Christmas Morning

Looking into the new year, I still see signs of a return to more typical winter temperatures by mid January, but I will add that those signals are quite as strong as they were a week ago. Similar trends are noted in long range models regarding snow. Winter is far from over, but we still have a few weeks to go before we return to any lasting semblance of typical northern Indiana winter weather.
