My enthusiasm for the weather started early, thanks to Dick Addis, Mike Hoffman, and mainly, my Dad. I grew up a typical Midwesterner who, in the summer, when the sirens were going off, was in the driveway with my Dad, looking at the sky for rotation and funnels. I have a book, The Handy Weather Answers Book, with a section in the back to log daily weather reports filled with information from the winter of 1998-1999 when I was in the 6th grade. I credit “Aunt Pat” and “Uncle Barb” for gifting me that book and catapulting my interest in meteorology.
I graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Planetary Science in 2010 and have posted local weather forecasts online for the last 20 years. I taught science at Goshen High School for over a decade before getting my master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan and moving into an administrative role there. The sections I taught included chemistry, ICP, physics, honors physics, IB physics, and my personal favorite, earth and space science. To this day, I get extreme weather updates from former students all over the country and even from different parts of the world.
I have been married to my incredible wife for what will be a decade this June. We are blessed with two amazing children, ages 3 and 7. We love Goshen and chose to move and stay here because it is such a great place to raise our kids.
I have run Goshen Weather (formerly GHSWeather) since 2013 and started as a lowly Twitter account with two followers (me and my wife) before growing to around 1000 followers before switching platforms. My weather photos and videos have been featured in the local news many times and multiple times on a national stage, including Weather Nation and The Weather Channel. In June 2020, amid an oppressive local drought, a video I posted of my daughter dancing in the rain went viral and was featured on Good Morning America.
I love talking about the weather, and the last few years since moving to Facebook have been incredible. Interacting with friends and neighbors over the weather in Goshen has been a blast, and Goshen Weather continues to grow. I am excited to see what the future has in store. Thanks for being a part of it all!
